CASES

This website provides information about the CASES trial: “Carotid Artery Stenting during Endovascular treatment of acute ischemic Stroke versus deferred treatment of carotid artery stenosis”.
CASES is a multicenter randomized clinical trial, performed within the CONTRAST consortium.
The aim is to assess the efficacy and safety of two different treatment strategies in patients undergoing endovascular treatment for an acute ischemic stroke with a tandem lesion (ipsilateral proximal atherosclerotic internal carotid artery stenosis > 50% or occlusion):

• Immediate carotid artery stenting
• A deferred treatment approach: carotid revascularization within two weeks after stroke onset or best medical management only, depending on the functional recovery of the patient.
